The HCS Guidance Counseling Department works with all HCS students in areas of academic achievement, career choices and personal, social and spiritual development. Guidance counselors work one-on-one with students and parents to achieve these ends. Each spring, HCS administers the Iowa Assessments standardized tests for Kindergarten thru 10th grade, to measure student achievement and growth.
For college preparation, HCS administers the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) to all 11th grade students the fall of their junior year and provides access to ACT/SAT test preparation resources. Guidance counselors link students with college information, scholarship and internship / career opportunities. HCS also conducts college visit trips, notably during spring break, to out-of-state colleges. Students experience college classroom and campus life, while also speaking with college students (alumni), professors and administration, as they seek God’s will in their life, post-graduation.
